The Harbor Terrace project cleared a major hurdle with its regulatory approval on Thursday, March 26th from the San Luis Obispo Planning Commission.
Harbor Terrace is a 34-acre site on the Pacific Ocean designed for a campground and other visitor amenities to be built near the main entrance to Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant. The project calls for a low cost campground with tent camping, recreational vehicle hookups, and cabins, as well as a restaurant and a store.
Earth Systems has been involved in the project since the 1980’s. As a member of the consultant team, Earth Systems has provided geotechnical, geologic, and environmental studies. Our reports addressed the geologic units at the site, seismicity, faulting, landslide potential, erosion, radon, and naturally-occurring asbestos. Possible mitigation measures were discussed for the identified geologic and geotechnical hazards. The fault investigation was conducted in an area of the site where the visitor center is planned, which involved extensive trenching and observation of subsurface conditions by a Certified Engineering Geologist at Earth Systems.
