The Golden Hill Road and Union Road Roundabout Project involved reconstruction of an existing stop-controlled intersection in Paso Robles, California. During the design phase of the project, Earth Systems performed subsurface exploration and laboratory testing to aid in the development of roadway reconstruction recommendations and provided consultation during discussions of project construction phasing and specification development.
From the planning stages through construction, Earth Systems’ role was to ensure the project started on sound footing. The reconstruction work used an innovative application of existing techniques including pulverization, Full-Depth Reclamation with Cement (FDR-C), placement of Class II aggregate base, minor concrete work, HMA paving, and utility trench backfill.
During construction, Earth Systems provided essential services, including compaction testing for sewer and water line backfill, observation and testing of FDR-C operations, inspection of HMA placement with associated materials testing, and compaction testing for minor concrete and aggregate base areas.
Our services consisted of compaction testing of sewer and water line backfill; observation and testing during FDR-C operations; inspection of HMA placement and associated materials testing; and compaction testing in areas where native soil and aggregate base required compaction. As a result of the collaborative effort during design and construction, the projected construction timeline for the project was reduced by several months.
